Aussie World - The Australia Holiday Resources Centre

So much to discover in a single region ... A patchwork of national parks. Some of them being located on the Queensland side (Lamington N.P., Springbrook N.P.), others on the New South Wales side (Border Ranges N.P., Mt. Warning N.P., Night Cap N.P.). A short, too short, visit to the Mt. Warning and Tweed Valley region.

Mt. Warning

and

the Tweed Valley

Region

After having spent four weeks on the Queensland roads, we were looking for a place, not too far from Brisbane, were we could relax for a couple of days before going back home. The problem was not to find such a place but mainly to choose between the many different available options.

Having spent, few years ago, a day around the Mt. Warning, we thought it could be a good idea to discover a little bit more this region.

Thanks to the information provided by the AHRC (Australia Holiday Resources Centre) we contacted Clive and Tracy from the Hillcrest Mountain View Retreat. After few email messages exchanged, they gave us confidence that their place was really what we were looking for.

Indeed it was!!!

The place is very quite, the view from the property is fantastic and the house is very comfortable.
Thanks to Clive and Tracy, to their help and attention, we had a great stay and really enjoyed this rest.
If you want to spend a while in the region, it is really a place we can recommend.

The Mt. Warning region is located in New South Wales, just after the Queensland border and easily accessible from the Gold Coast.

The Mt. Warning national park is one of the most visited places of this region, but it is not the only one.
If you are planning to stay few days in the region, do not worry, there are enough things to do … Many of these options are described in details on the Hillcrest Mountain View Retreat website (the site is also offering some very useful links).

The region can be seen as a patchwork of national parks. Some of them being located on the Queensland side ( Lamington N.P., Springbrook N.P. ), others on the New South Wales side ( Border Ranges N.P., Mt. Warning N.P., Nightcap N.P.).

One option to access the region coming from the Gold Coast is to take the road to Mudgeeraba, passing Neranwoodand and the Numinba Valley. After that, crossing the Queensland - New South Wales border before reaching the small town of Murwillumbah.

I like this access as it a nice drive through a set of very nice country sides. It offers also the opportunity to stop at the Natural Arch , located 3 kilometres before the border, and have a short walk to discover and enjoy the beauty of the place.
The rock archway of Natural Bridge spans the mountain-fed waters of Cave Creek. Behind the bridge, the creek forms a waterfall which plunges into a gaping hole, disappearing into the depths of a cavern. From the pool below the bridge emerges a sparkling stream, which flows into the Nerang River and down the Numinbah valley. Surrounding the creek is dense sub-tropical rainforest. To the east, towering cliff faces form the edge of Springbrook Plateau.

The walk around the Arch is very nice and pretty easy. It should not take you more than an hour. The place is a real delight for the photograph. (Here is a link for those who are looking for more information on this place).

This road is also crossing the Numinbah valley, an opportunity to discover some diversity in the local architecture.

It is also there that we found one of the other activities we practiced during our stay in the region; I am talking about 'horse riding'. Even if we are not used to that we are always enjoying it.

The one offered by Numinbah Valley Adventure Trails is very good. The ride takes you out for several hours and includes a Billy Tea (with dampers) taken on the river banks.

The place where we were saying, The Hillcrest Mountain View Retreat, is convenient to visit the region as it is quite centrally located and provides easy access to most of the regional attractions. The Numinbah Valley, Mt. Warning N.P., the Tweed Valley and other national parks are quite easily accessible from there.

Unfortunately, we did not stay long enough in the region to visit and enjoy all these places but we did some short drives that we appreciated.

One of them drove us to the small village of Chillingham that is a gateway to the Springbrook national park but also a colourful place to visit. If you have some interest in art and craft, you should probably also visit the Stokers Siding Pottery.

We found the place interesting not only for the diversity and quality of the displayed pieces but also for the prices that we found more reasonable than in many other locations where they are increasing as the tourism does.

Well, I am aware that the information provided here above is far from being complete. As I already said we did not stay long enough in the region to be able to provide a detailed travel log. At least, with the support of my photos, I hope to give you an overview of what this region looks like and hopefully the desire to visit it.
