Hervey Bay’s
best-kept secret

The Blackall Range

Few days around

Map

Located north of Brisbane the Sunshine Coast stretches over one hundred kilometers from the Glass House Mountains to Noosa Everglades and Frazer island.

The Sunshine Coast is very different from the Gold Coast, quieter, not so 'nightlife' oriented. It is a place where you can easily spend two weeks holiday.

No worry, you will be busy everyday.

Leaving Brisbane and before really reaching the Sunshine Coast the Redcliffe area could be of some interest for you if you are tempted by Whales watching and if, of course, it is the appropriate time of the year.

The Whalewatching season in Moreton Bay runs from mid June through to the beginning of November.

'Moreton Bay Whalewatching' invites you to come on board their magnificent vessel "Supercat 6" for an encounter with the mighty Humpback whales. Of all the great whales, the 'humpback' is the most surface active displaying a ton of energy. They announce their presence in spectacular fashion. It could be the "blow" - the Humpback's breathing through their blowhole.

A little bit further north, Currimundi, near Caloundra, (100 kms. north of Brisbane), is a quite place, on one side you have the ocean, at the other a lake. From there you can easily access the different attractions of the Sunshine Coast Region. One of these attractions being this amazing Ettamogha Pub on the side of the Bruce Hwy.

Sunset - Currimundi LakeFew kilometers from Currimundi, Caloundra is the perfect place for your daily shopping.  Some nice views of the Glass house Mountains.

This first part of the Sunshine Coast section will move you away from the coast. It will be dedicated to the inland part of this region.

Glass House Mountains

75 km north of Brisbane, a group of  thirteen distance peaks : The Glass House Mountains are the remains  of a volcanic activity more than 20 million year ago. It is one of the several national parks of the region. A good place for  bushwalking, rockclimbing, and picnicking. There is also a scenic drive that can be done in 3 hours.

Glass House Mountains

Blackall Range

North to the Glass House Mt., the Blackall Range  offer beautiful scenic drives and is also famous for its local arts  and crafts. Special note for Montville, a village with a very  'special' atmosphere, dedicated to arts and crafts, home of Tony O'Connor, a famous Australian composer of 'relaxing music'.

Back in time, enjoy art and craft in Montville

Bribie Island

Back on the coast, South of Caloundra, Bribie Island is good spot along the beach for a day an a picnic (try to avoid the weekend)

Forest Glen Deer & Wildlife Sanctuary

Nice if you have children,  an opportunity for them to approach the deers very close. Possibility to drive through the park and do some a walks in the forest

Mooloolaba

Underwater WorldUnderwater World, a great aquarium.

You are walking along 80 meters of clear underwater tunnel with sharks and other species all around you. Different shows are available. A great opportunity to meet turtles, mantarays, seals and crocodiles.

Mooloolaba - the Wharf

Super Bee

Good spot with children, after a 30 min. 'Bee Show' where you receive all the explanations on the honey manufacturing (see the bees in action), you can spend half a day in the park, very nice with some attractions for the children (e.g. parrots feeding, ...)

Still many other activities and attractions around.

Going further north, you reach Noosa, Fraser Island, …. but that's be for another section.
