| Coming from south, the direct
road to reach Exmouth is the Minilya - Exmouth rd. Just after
the Minilya Roadhouse,
turn left. From time to time, as it was the case when we visited
the region, this road is flooded by the Lyndon River.
You can obtain a status about the road at the office
of the Main Road Department in Carnarvon or directly at the
roadhouse.
On the photo you can see all the caravans
waiting and expecting a drop of the river level.
If this road is flooded, you have an other option. 109
kms further than the roadhouse you have the Burkett rd. on
the left.
It is an unsealed road, not in a very good shape, but
we took it with our camper van without any damage. This way
is 60 kms. longer but at least you can reach your destination.
The photos hereafter show the level of the river when
we came back from Exmouth.

|
| When you arrive at Exmouth dont be surprised to find
only one supermarket, few other shops, ....Exmouth is one of
the newest town in Australia (founded in 1967 as a support for
the U.S. Naval Communication Station).
At least in town you still have the opportunity to use
your credit cards. Take this opportunity because further you
will probably not be able to use them (except at the Milyering
Visitor Centre), so, plan to have some cash (I suppose it
will change in the near future ...)
After a visit to the Exmouth Tourist information Centre,
you can continue north for few kms. Take left when you will
see a sign "Lighthouse Caravan Park" or "Yardie
Homestead".On this road you will drive till the Lighthouse
Caravan Park where you will stop. No, you dont stop
for the night, but simply to rent some snorkelling equipment
(if you do not have your own). When you rent the equipment
you should also receive a map. The map shows you the best
places to do snorkelling and also gives you some safety information.
|
| Just after the caravan park you have the Lighthouse.
A place where you have a scenic view. It is also a good
whale watching spot (if you are lucky and if it is the good
period of the year).
This place also offers great sunsets that you should
not miss.
|
 |
| About 15 kms. further do not miss the road
on the left to Yardie Homestead, it is our final
destination for the day.
At the sunset the fishers
are coming back to the caravan park with their catch of their
day.
You can end your day by a dinner at the Yardie Pool restaurant.
The restaurant is located, guess where, ... just behind
the pool of the homestead. It is not what we can call a top
class restaurant, but who cares. I certify that you can eat
some great fish, very well prepared by the cook who has also
his own sense of humour.
