Turquoise Bay & Yardie Creek
On the map you received when rent your snorkelling equipment, one of the recommended place for family snorkelling is Turquoise Bay.

From Yardie Homestead you will drive 20 kms before you reach the Milyering visitor centre. You can stop there for a while, there is a gift shop but more interesting are the displays, the audiovisual facility and the library that contain a wealth of information on the Marine Park.

It is also interesting to know that the centre is built from rammed earth and is powered by solar panels. It is the first totally environmentally friendly building of this type in Australia.

Turquoise Bay - Ex_57After this visit you will drive few more kms. to reach Turquoise Bay.

Without 4X4 you have to leave your car in the car park and walk for 10 to 15 minutes on the beach to reach a zone where the stream is more adequate.

If you are with young children you must take care, at some places the stream can be important.

From the place you have stopped, you just have to swim about 50 to 100 meters and after that just relax and let you drain by the stream, the reef is under you. Fish, small and big, coral, ... all the incredible diversity you can have on the reef is there, just under you.

Perhaps as I did you will follow for a while a beautiful small ray, or look for the parrot fish, or the turtles, ....

You will have great time and if you are accompanied by children it will be for them an unforgettable experience. Even if one of your child is not confident enough you can do as I did, take him on your back, he will be able to enjoy the scenery by looking over your shoulder.

Kim & Dad - Ex_52
The time will fly. Do not forget that you still have to go to Yardie Creek for the afternoon visit. From Turquoise Bay to Yardie Creek you need around 30 to 45 min.

At Yardie Creek, Neil and his spouse will welcome you aboard their small boat.

Yardie Creek - Ex_58

The journey on the river is pleasant, you receive explanation on the local fauna and flora and some historical anecdotes (Oh ! By the way, do not trust him if he is telling you that the year before he found a treasure in of the cave ;-) shuuut .....)

.... and be ready for the Quiz .... you can win .... It should not be fair to tell you what :-)

Mangrove - Ex_59Yardie Creek - Ex_60

Yardie Creek - Ex_61

Yardie Creek - Ex_62

Depending of the level of the water, it is possible that you will have to jump out of the boat. A short walk on the rocks will permit you to enjoy Yardie Creek, further, where the boat can not go.

This ends a very busy day.
