When you are in Monkey Mia, watch the ocean. The dolphins
are wild and free. They can come near the shore at any moment.
During my stay my daughter saw them around 7 o'clock
in the evening, just before the information session began.
|
| You can 'Meet the
Dolphins' two or three times a day. The first session is around
8 am (check with the Park Rangers) |

| Of course you probably have questions
such as :
"Can I swim with the dolphins ?" ,
Swimming with the dolphins is possible. It will depend on their
mood and your patience to wait for them to swim near you.
|

| "Can I touch them ?" ,
Probably not. The Park Ranger rangers will tell you that you
can damage their skin if you do not touch them correctly.
|

| "What really happens in Monkey Mia,
how can I approach the dolphins ?" ,
First do not forget that the place is very well known
in the world as a tourist attraction. Many people wait for the 'feeding
sessions'. The place become crowded and the Rangers have to organise
'the show".
|
 |
When the feeding time arrives, people will line
up along the beach. Some Rangers will be half in the water.
Each Ranger is accompanied by a dolphin (the dolphins
arrive one after the other, usually on time !).
The rangers walk in the water along the beach, followed
by the dolphins. This gives you a good opportunity to see
the animals (1 or 2 meters). For the feeding time the
Rangers call one person to carry the fish bucket. Each fish
is presented to the dolphin by another 'elected' person. |
| This is the moment all the children (and
also some adults :-) are waiting : to be called to feed The Dolphins.
If your are unlucky, you will have to wait for the next feeding time.
Feeding time is great fun for the family. |
| For the rest of the day you can enjoy
the beach (probably you have in mind a swim with the dolphins ;-), or
choose a cruise on the glass-bottom boat (from the jetty). Visit the
pearling grounds. You may be lucky to see some rays, sharks, turtles
and if you are really lucky, the occasional Dugong. |
