In this Issue
Happy to share with you this first issue of
the Australia Holiday Resources Centre (A.H.R.C.) Newsletter for 1999.
Since the last newsletter (October 99) a news service was launched on Aussie World. This service called 'Post-A-Card' gives you the opportunity to share with your family and friends some great Aussie landscape. There are currently 16 postcards available but this number will increase in the next few months.
In the 'Photos and Travel Logs' section, few pages have been added. Some of them are dedicated to the Carnarvon NP (see below) and others are for the Blackdown Tableland NP.
I hope you will enjoy this issue and please do not hesitate to send me comments if any. Do not forget that you also have the opportunity to participate to the edition of this newsletter. If you are interested you can contact me by email: admin@aussieworld.com

BridgeClimb (Sydney) BridgeClimb is the dream of the BridgeClimb Chairman, Paul Cave: "when I first climb the bridge as part of an international business conference several years ago it was a totally exhilarating experience. I decided then that I would find a way to give as many people as possible a chance to experience the thrill of climbing our bridge…" From October 1998 member of the public are able to climb the arches of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. BridgeClimb enable people to enjoy a 360 degree view of one of Australia's most identifiable icons.

Safety on the climb is BridgeClimb's No1 priority. Climbers are not permitted to carry anything with them, even camera are forbidden. However, the latest in digital photographic technology is carried by BridgeClimb Climb Leaders to ensure that every climber has that all important picture of themselves at the submit of the Bridge and a complementary photo is included. The total BridgeClimb experience take three hours from the check-in at BridGeClimb base at No 5 Cumberland Street, The Rocks, to completion of the climb and return to the base. This time also includes a briefing with one of the professional BridgeClimb Climb Leaders and a pre climb briefing video. All bridge climbers are harnessed to a static line for the duration of the climb. A Climb Leader accompanies each group of ten. Tickets for the upper arch climb are AUD98, and concession ticket for those aged from 12 to 16 years are AUD79. The suspension arch climb will be at a reduced price and should commence this year. Mark started this project 10
years ago. When the Internet started to become more popular with the invention
of web browsers he found in this media a perfect solution to solve his
distribution and platform compatibility problems. The site also includes some links to 'Other Music sites' that could be very interesting for the 'amateurs'. It may give you the opportunity to discover Folk festivals that occur all over Australia in many different towns and cities or the Australian Folk Songs sister site "Union Songs" which contains much more contemporary material. It is not far south from this place that the explorer Edmund Kennedy began his journey. It is a 7 kms. return walk. The trail follows the beach, traverses coastal forests of palms, pandanus and paperback.
After 20-30 min. you drop down to the sand of Lugger Bay. After a walk along the beach you enter again into the rain forest to reach Tam O'Shanter Point with its views from the shelter shed at Morgans Lookout.
On a sunny day and with a little breeze the place can be magic. There are great chances that you will be alone there. You have just walked along the only access to the bay and the distance excludes the less dedicated walkers. About 10 minutes further on the beach there are some facilities comprising sheltered tables, toilets and water. You can also be tempted to continue a little bit further to reach the mouth of the Hull River (20 min.). Do not try to cross this river, it is the prime habitat for the Saltwater Crocodile. The region is also the habitat for the Cassowary. If there is a chance to see them along the track, it is not very usual. A final remark, the walk is taking few hours and the facilities along the track are limited so bring enough water with you. Do not forget other usual precautions such as a hat and sunscreen. And if after such a day you want to enjoy your evening by going out for dinner, let me recommend you the restaurant 'Friends' at Mission Beach (on the main street). It has a nice atmosphere, people are very kind, the food is great and prices very reasonable. |
