Q1. Is a Greyhound Pass a like organized tour?
No, Greyhound is only providing the transportation
Q2. Is accommodation included in the Greyhound Pass price?
No, accommodation cost is not included. Greyhound does not provide any accommodation. You will be free to choose the accommodation type of your preference.
Q3. Some specific Aussie Explorer Passes include 'Free Transfer'. What are these transfers?
A free transfer, the opportunity to discover some of local wonders (i.e. the Kakadu N.P., the Red Centre). Accommodation is never included in these tours. For more information, simply visit the dedicated page.
Q4. What kind of facilities are there available in the Greyhound coaches?
The coaches sit roughly about 50 passengers. All seats recline; coaches are air-conditioned / heated and have toilets on board. All coaches are equipped with microphones, and play music. Those coaches doing long haul sectors also have tv/videos and play movies.
Q5. How can I book my pass?
A reservation form is available on Aussie World and is accessible by selecting the price corresponding to the selected pass. It is required to fill and submit one form per person. As soon as your reservation request is received, we are contacting you to finalize your booking. You will then receive an electronic confirmation that you will be able to exchange against your final ticket at the Greyhound terminal of your choice upon your arrival in Australia.
Q6. Is it preferable to by my Aussie Explorer Pass or Kilometre Pass prior to my arrival in Australia?
Yes. It is possible to buy your pass once you will be in Australia but it will be more expensive (around 10%). This is due to a specific agreement between Greyhound and its international agents.
Q7. Is it required to book a seat in advance?
No, it is not mandatory to book a seat in advance. It possible to simply catch the bus from one of the Greyhound terminals just before the departure. Nevertheless, during peak periods or on some busy segments it is sometimes preferable to reserve a seat a little bit in advance. In Australia passengers can ring 24/7 the following number 13 14 99 for the cost of a local phone call. Through this, passengers can reserve a seat at no charge and have within 2 hours of the bus of the bus departure to cancel without penalties.
Q8. I would like to obtain a list with the stops for a specific Pass, how can I obtain it?
The timetables for the different 'Pass' are available on demand. Simply use the information request form to ask them.
Q9. How frequently are the coaches travelling on a specific segment?
At least once a day and more often on the most important segments. Details are available within the timetables.
Q10. With an Aussie Explorer Pass is it possible to start the journey in one direction and then come back in the other direction?
Yes, you will be allowed to do it but only if the pass has been bought at the flex rate (normal price). In case you bought the pass at the concession rate, backtracking will not be allowed.
Q11. With an Aussie Kilometer Pass is it possible to start the journey in one direction and then come back in the other direction?
Yes. Backtracking is allowed with the Aussie Kilometer Pass.
Q12. Several passes are only listed as going in one direction, are they also existing going in the reverse direction?
Yes. All the Aussie Explorer Passes can be taken in one direction or in the other. For example, if a pass is described as going from Sydney to Cairns, it can also be taken from Cairns to Sydney and this at the same cost.
Q13. As the backtracking is not authorised for the Aussie Explorer Passes (bought at concession price), how is it working with some passes such as the Aussie Reef & Rock?
In some specific cases, when there is no other solution, backtracking is authorised for a specific portion of the itinerary to reach to the next destination. Example, if coming from Cairns you arrive to Alice Springs, you do not have any other choice than to take back part of the same road to be able to reach Darwin.
Q14. For some passes, the exact city of departure is not specified (i.e. Best of the West), where do we have to start the Pass?
When the Pass is a closed loop, you can start it where you want, usually in one of the big cities such as Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.

Greyhound is usually providing, for information only, a minimal number of days required to complete a Pass, but this really depends of your way of travelling. To calculate a minimal number of days required, you can base you estimate that the bus is covering about 100 kms. Per hour, then you add a couple of hours for the stops, maildrops, etc, … this will give you an idea … but do not forget … you are in holiday there are plenty of places to visit and many wonders to see …

Q17. What is the difference between the Greyhound and MacCafferty companies ?
In fact, McCaffertys purchased Greyhound Pioneer about few years ago, as the market was not able to sustain 2 big players. It is now one company officially known as Greyhound Australia.
